Virginia Crenshaw

October 10, 1942 — April 4, 2021

Virginia Carol Crenshaw (Carol to those who knew and loved her) 78 of Roswell, passed away in the early morning hours on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021 in Artesia where she resided with her daughter and grandchildren due to her failing health. Carol was continually surrounded with love by her family, friends and caregivers.

Services for Carol will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Grace Community Church in Roswell.  Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery in Roswell where she will be laid to rest beside her husband and daughter. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary in Artesia from 3pm to 5 pm on Monday, and from 12:30 pm til 1:45 pm on Tuesday at Grace Community Church.

Carol was born on October 10, 1942 in Houston, TX; to W.T. and Virginia Perry. On July 9, 1964, she married the love of her life, Cal C. Crenshaw, to whom she was a devoted wife until his death on March 11, 2010. Their 5 children, 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren were the product of their almost 45 years of love.

Carol’s world revolved around not just her children, but all the children of Roswell. Whether it be the students of Washington Ave, or the Grace Kids at Grace Community Church during COVID shutdown, those kids gave her purpose!!  Washington Ave. Elementary was a huge part of her life!! She began as a parent volunteer, then a substitute teacher and later a teaching assistant through the Chaves County Foster Grandparent Program. Whatever role she was filling, Washington Ave, the teacher, staff and students are what kept her going for 40+ years!!

Carol was also on the board of the Chaves County RSVP Foundation and many others. She lived a life of servitude and will be missed by so many.

Carol was preceded in death by both her parents and her husband, but it was the death of their daughter Missy Jo Crenshaw in 2003 that left a hole in her heart that could never be filled until their heavenly reunion on Sunday. She was also preceded by grandsons Chris and Cody Hoppaugh and great-granddaughter Bella Faye Holloway.

Those left who will miss her immensely are her sisters Barbara Colwell-Little (Jim) and Nancy Hargrave (Tom), her son Gary Crenshaw (Trish) and daughters Connie Cartwright (Joe Clark) Teresa Frost and Lynette Branch (Kendrick Rose), her grandchildren Sam, Kimbely, Amanda, Jennifer, Barney, Jennifer, Ashlee, Cali, Kyle, Cheyenne, Sierra Jo, Tonya, Tyler, Tamra, Madison, Daniel, Domanic, Marcus, Kaitlyn, Cameron and Allyson and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family would like to extend our appreciation to the staff at J&J Health Care and Encompass Hospice with a special thank you to Gen, Trey, Tory, “J-Me” Yvonne and Cierra. She loved you and so do we.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her honor to Chaves County JOY Center and Foster Grandparent Program at 1822 N Montana Roswell, NM 88201 or Grace Kids at Grace Community Church 935 W Mescalero Rd Roswell, NM 88201
