April 9, 1945 — February 16, 2021

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 20, at Faith Baptist Church for Sokie (Socorro) Telles of Artesia, New Mexico.

Ms. Telles, 75, died February 16, 2021 at Artesia General Hospital.

Robbie Ballew will officiate at the services.  Cremation will take place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Socorro was born April 9, 1945 in Alpine TX to Joaquin Carrera and Sara Rubio Carrera.

Sokie retried from Hobbs NM Family Services back in 2009.  She was in Drug Court and worked with families that had their children removed from their home.  Her job was to help them get their children back.  She spent her years serving others.  She participated and served in Brethren Ministries.  If she didn't feel well enough to walk and talk to the homeless, she would still go and stay in the van and pray us through the day.  Her latest which was like up to 3 weeks ago, was being a teacher at home for Chloe on the days she didn't get to go to school.  She was so orgnaized and really stayed on top of what assignments Chloe had.  But of course It wasn't all work, they had alot of time to play and have fun too.   My Mom loved life and her calling was always to teach and serve.

She enjoyed many things, she liked going to games and watching the kids compete.  All the way from her grandchildren to her great great nieces and nephews.  She especially loved her Tuesday night bible studies at home that she has had since she moved back to Artesia in 2010.  This last year it had to dwindle down to her and her 2 sisters, Gracie and Carmen on Thursday nights.  She loved giving of herself and spending her time studying God's word with others.  She enjoyed gardening and tending to her roses. In fact, her rosebushes are already trimmed and ready for this spring.  One of her favorite things was to sit outside and watch Chloe and Dezlyn play.

She loved her church, Faith Baptist and her church family.  She looked forward to faith group and lately she was only attending on Wednesday nights.  She left a huge legacy for for us, our children, and their children!!  Many more blessings to receive, thank you Jesus!

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chito Telles, a daughter Susie Powell, and a great grandson Deci Gonzales.

Survivors include her son Porfirio "Sonny" Gonzales III and his wife Shelley; a daughter Debbi  Garcia, her husband Dennis.  Grandchildren:  Samantha Rubio and Gabriel, Devyn Garcia and Callie, Sonny Gonzales and Santana, Denzyl Garcia and Dasia, Gino Gonzales and Lisa and Erica Gonzales.  And 10 great grandchildren.  Her sibling's (2) brothers Joaquin Carrera Jr. and Alfred Carrera; and (5) sisters Carmen Arenivas, Alicia Raglan, Bibi (Rosemary) Chaves, Gracie Marquez, and Corina Valenzuela; And numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and even great great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Brethren Ministry 508 Desert Lakes Rd, Alamogordo, N.M.  88310.

Services will be on Facebook Live through Faith Baptist's Facebook Live.
