Richard Mcintire

September 14, 1947 — August 7, 2020

A celebration of life will be scheduled for Thursday, August 13, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the home of Richard and Marlene McIntire in memory of Richard Lee McIntire of Beaverton, Oregon.

Richard, 72, went to his heavenly home Friday, August 7, 2020.

He was born September 14, 1947, the son of Fermor J. and Marjorie P. (Dickerson) McIntire.  Both Richard and his brother Dean were born in the farmhouse on the family farm in Olathe, Colorado.  Richard attended Fairview County School, graduated from Olathe High School and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado.

He began his working career at the Welfare Office in Las Animas, Colorado and then transferred to Montrose County Department of Social Services working with the adult handicapped services.

Richard only won one lottery in his life which was the first Draft Lottery of the Vietnam War.  He served his country in the United States Army from 1970-1974 while being stationed in Georgia.  There he ran the office of the Mental Hygiene Clinic and worked with the first prisoners of war the last two years of his service.

With the addition of his son Michael and daughter Tera to his family, he took on a second part-time job as an apprentice at a funeral home in Georgia and it was here that he found his calling to the funeral industry.  After being discharged from the Army, he attended Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon where he obtained a degree in funeral services.  He was the owner/operator of Kinsey Funeral Home and Montrose Valley Funeral home before leaving Montrose in 1987.  Richard continued his career in the funeral industry working on the west coast in several locations in California, Oregon, and Washington before retiring in 2012.

Richard was a loving man and never met a stranger.  He loved spending time with his family along with Marlene and his cats Burton and Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law Betty McIntire, and several aunts and uncles.

Richard is survived by his wife Marlene of the family home; daughter Tera Glenn and fiance Mike Bourlier of Auburn, WA; son Michael McIntire and wife Rochelle of Artesia, NM; brother Dean McIntire and wife Argelis of Livermore, CO; grandchildren Brandon and Tanner Bourlier, Cierra, Brent, and Ashlyn McIntire; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and associates he met throughout his career.

The family would like to thank the entire VA Hospital especially Dr. West for their speed and dedication in fighting this illness along with Saman Soleymani with Serenity Hospice for his kindness, understanding, and care.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Donelson Funeral Chapel.  Please remember Mr. McIntire at www.donelsonfh@stonemor.com.
