Maria Rubio

Services are scheduled for 10 am Friday, August 12, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Maria Marquez Rubio of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Rubio, 94, died on August 4, 2022 at her home in Artesia.

Father Vijay will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Gomez, Thomas Gonzales, Matt Haines, Adrian Saiz, Dominic Gomez, Daniel Rubio, Sal Rubio, Fernando Rubio III, and Michael Rubio. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 2 to 6pm on Thursday. A rosary is also scheduled for 9:30 am on Friday at Our Lady of Grace Church.

Maria was born on April 30, 1928 in Presidio, Texas; the daughter of Jesus Marquez and Petra Palomin Marquez.

She was a longtime resident of Artesia. Maria was a homemaker for many years and later in life she worked in housekeeping for Yates Petroleum for 10 years. She enjoyed raising her grandchildren, growing flowers in her yard, cooking and baking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fernando Rubio, a son Antonio Rubio, three brothers and a sister.

Survivors include her sons Avelardo Rubio and wife Ida, Israel Rubio, and Fernando Rubio Jr and wife Rita.; daughters Yolanda Saiz and husband Johnny, Olivia Haines and husband Steve, and Sylvia Granado and husband Mike; brothers Henry Marquez and Lupe Marquez; sisters Rosa Aguilar and Grace Lopez; also by 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special "Thank you" to Jaime, Sierra, Luisa, Jana, Yvonne, and all other nurses that provided care by Encompass Health. To Norma Salcido and Maria Jimenez, our caregivers, who took such good care of our mother with so much love and compassion.
