Lloyd Mathews

Graveside services are scheduled for  3:00 PM, Friday, January 29,  at Woodbine Cemetery for Lloyd Welton Mathews of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Mathews, 91, died January 25, 2021 at Artesia General Hospital.

Belton Mathews will officiate at the services.  Pallbearers will be Jerry Lee Mathews, Raymond Mathews, Brad Mathews, Wesley Mathews, Daniel Munoz, and Jace Lanning.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 11 am to 1 pm on Friday.

Lloyd was born July 18, 1929 in Trent, Texas to James Belton Mathews and Nellie Mabel Hale Mathews.

He was married to Louise Miller on August 1, 1955 in Artesia.  She preceded him in death on July 15, 1987.

Loyd was a longtime resident of Artesia and a member of Centre Ave. Baptist Church.  He enjoyed woodworking and building old buildings, wagons, wishing wells and rocking chairs.  Some of his work had been displayed in the Artesia Museum in the past.  He also enjoyed playing baseball and loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jimmy Welton Mathews on March 3, 2011, and by three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his daughter Linda Mathews;  a brother Jerry Mathews; grandchildren April Lanning and fiance Daniel Munoz, Heather Mathews, Misty Mathews and Raymond Vasquez; great-grandchildren Tessa Mathews, Jace Lanning, and Brooklynne Fresquez.
