Joann White

July 26, 1933 — June 8, 2020

O Magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His Name together, Psalm 34:3

Our mother, JoAnn White, entered her Heavenly home to live eternally with Jesus, the King of Kings, and many loved ones, on June 8, 2020. Her family was by her side.

JoAnn Short White was born to Walter G. and Jonnyle Shaw Short. She was an only child. JoAnn and her family moved to Artesia NM in her early childhood where she lived for sixty plus years. Many life-long friends were made and JoAnn met the love of her life, Allen Ray White, in high school. They were married October 6, 1951 for 33 years before Allen passed away. They enjoyed many wonderful times together – camping, boating, exploring the mountains, and traveling. Most of all they enjoyed building a family, being involved in family activities, and instilling the character of Christ as a foundation for their marriage, family, and friendships.

JoAnn and Allen had two children: Kandice Ann White Moran and son-in-law Dr. Steve, of Roswell, NM. Gregory Allen White and daughter-in-law Debbie, of Lubbock, TX. They have 5 grandchildren: Holly A Moran Smith, husband Ryan, of Southlake, TX; Lukas C. Moran, wife Shanna, of Roswell, NM; Amy E. White Champion, husband J.D., of Lubbock, TX; Allison Leigh White Harrison, husband T.J., of Lubbock, TX; and Annalisa K. White of Dallas, TX. Her great grandchildren are: Hudson C. Smith, Hadleigh K. Smith, Remington G. Smith of Southlake. TX; Jace C. Moran, Travis C. Moran, and Dawson L. Moran of Roswell, NM; and Hunter M. Harrison and Sterling J. Harrison of Lubbock, TX. JoAnn is affectionately known as "Mamoo" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. JoAnn is also survived by brother-in-law William (Wayne) White, wife Cookie; sister-in-law Kay Permenter; cousin Synde Cleveland, husband Royce; and special nieces, nephews, and sweet friends she cherished. Allen preceded her in death along with her parents, grandparents, mother and father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and two great grandchildren.

JoAnn was a member of First Baptist Church of Artesia over sixty years before moving to Roswell, NM where she was a member of Grace Community Church for eighteen years. JoAnn was also a member of DAR. She loved history and honored America. She was an avid reader and traveled many places including Israel. She took trips to New York with the “Flakey Dames”, an investment group, and Missouri for beading classes. JoAnn did many beautiful china painting pieces and enjoyed playing bridge and Skip-bo. She enjoyed her time with her friends and encouraging them in knowing Jesus and the Word of God. She taught many Sunday School classes, and was involved in many prayer groups. It was her great joy to start the satellite class of Community Bible Study in Artesia and see it grow.

Our precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend loved us, encouraged us, and provided a rich legacy of walking with Jesus. She was strong, serving, faithful, fun, and had a radiant smile.

We thank Avamere and the many special caregivers and friends she had there through the years. We also thank our sweet cousins, Sherry, Terry, and Vachel for their help and wisdom. Thanks also to Ana, a caregiver, Kindred Hospice nurses, Maureen, and Roberta, and Dr. Rey Martinez for their kind care.
