He joined the United States Navy in 1948, at the age of 17, and served 4 years on board the U.S.S. Arnold J. Isbell. He enjoyed spending time with his former shipmates at ship reunions held around the country.

He began his career at Navajo Refining Company in 1955, where he retired in 1992, after 37 years, as a Safety Supervisor. During his retirement, he loved to travel, play golf, and visit his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a devout Christian from the time he was saved on October 14, 1961, and served the Lord faithfully as founding member of the Artesia Free Will Baptist Church. He was the full time interim preacher for many of the years the Church was open.

Papa, as he was referred to by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was a loving
husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He lived up to his guiding Bible verse, Joshua 24:15, "...as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-parents Pearl Leah Miller Pollock and Ray
Victor Falls, sister Thelma Geraldine Fry (Jerry) and her husband Press, son Jimmie Neal
Pollock, Jr., and great-grandchildren Addyson Mae and Robert Henry Swafford.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Katy of Artesia; daughter Christine Swafford and husband Rick of Artesia; grandchildren (crumb crunchers) Ricky Swafford of Irving, TX, Justin Swafford and wife Michelle of Sapulpa, OK, Stuart Swafford and wife Melissa of Lubbock, TX, Jessica Stewart and husband Justin of Phoenix, AZ, Kara Stageberg and husband Colby of Clovis, NM, and Seth Pollock and wife Kaitlen of Clovis, NM; great-grandchildren Justin Thomas Swafford, Shae Danielle Stageberg, Trenton Alan Swafford, Layton Gene Stageberg, Emma Dealy Stewart, Lyncoln Rae Pollock, Westin Neal Pollock, Katherine Mae Swafford, Brayleigh Renee Swafford, Owen Charles Swafford, and Charlotte Quinn Stewart.
