Hazel Lewis

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 am Saturday, January 21, at Hermosa Church of Christ for Hazel Lewis of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Lewis, 90, died on January 17, 2023 at her home in Artesia.

Lance Morriset will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Hazel was born on July 6, 1932 in Liberty, Alabama; the daughter of James Elmer Plunkett and Effie Flonell Gunter Plunkett.

She was an active member of Hermosa Church of Christ for many years. She enjoyed photography, having taken several photography classes. She loved to travel and made trips to England, Ireland and New Zealand. She was an avid Artesia Bulldogs and Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching football games. She loved most of all spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Arthur Lewis Sr., sons Albert Jenning Lewis and David Wayne Lewis, and by her sister Betty Gene Cumpton.

Survivors include sons James A. Lewis Jr. and wife Lisa, Robert Dewey Lewis and wife Vickie; daughters Kimberly Jane Partain and husband Rick, and Kathleen Vowell; a brother James Alfred Plunkett; granchildren DeWayne B. Partain and wife Pamela, Clay B. Partain and wife Julia, Tory Kay Partain, Kelsey Taylor Lewis, Jamie Allison Lewis, Aaron James Lewis, Logan Joel Huffman, Carly Jane Huffman, Sara B. Polk and husband Dustin, Mariah Ashley Longwith and husband Joshua, Nicoel Deann Shipley and husband Mitchell, R. J. Lewis, Brandon Wayne Lewis and wife Jazmin, and Brooke Nicole Garcia and husband Roberto; great-grandchildren Baylar S. Partain, Ethan Wayne Partain, Ayden Jenning Lewis Huffman, Tinsey Kay Polk, Kaymi Hannah Huffman, Asher Longwith, Spencer Longwith, Bentley Shipley, Ana Campbell and Tristan, Tenzie Boucher, Ella Boucher, Jayden Garcia, Winter Garcia, K.J. Lewis, Clara Partain and Leah Partain; great-great-grandchild Rick Doran Campbell.
