Guadalupe Salazar

May 29, 1944 — October 5, 2021

Guadalupe (Lupe) Rede Salazar passed away peacefully on October 5, 2021 at 77 years old. He was born in Lake Arthur, New Mexico in May of 1944 to Ysidro and Trinidad Salazar. He inherited the gift of storytelling from his beloved grandmother, Tomasa (Tomasita) Salazar. As a wide eyed curious young boy, he was utterly enchanted listening to her stories. They were the spark that led to a lifetime of inquisitiveness about the world and its people and he grew into an illustrious story teller himself! His love for adventure and tenacity for life became evident when he enlisted to serve in the U.S. Army in 1962 spending 4 years in Germany as a soldier in telecommunications. Returning home, he married, started a family, and used his new skills in a career in telecommunications for the cable industry; including starting his own business in Texas, Salazar Cable Services. He met the love of his life, Martha Salinas, in 1977 and he  blissfully remarried in 1978. He started a new career for Central Valley Electric in Artesia, NM as a lineman and service truck operator, retiring after 27 years of service to CVE.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Miguel and Tomasa Salazar, his adored parents, Ysidro and Trinidad Salazar, his darling sister Tomasa Sanchez, and finally his revered brothers Mike Salazar and Toribio Heredia.
He is survived by his wife Martha Salazar, sons Guadalupe (Tamika) Salazar, and Ramon Salinas all from Artesia, son Arturo (Mahira) Salinas from Texas, daughter Michelle (Jason) Barber, son Scott (Marianne) Dube, son Alan Salazar all from Massachusetts, son Philip Salazar from Arizona, son Craig Salazar from California, eight precious sisters, two dear brothers and all their spouses, an abundance of nieces and nephews, and lastly and his greatest joys, lights of his life, and objects of his affection in his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Please join us on Saturday, October 16, 2021 in celebrating his life. Viewing: 8:15am-9:30am. Rosary: 9:30am-10:00am. Mass 10:00am. All services will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 502 S 9th St. Artesia, NM. Burial to follow at Lake Arthur Cemetery.

As a family, we will miss his kindness, generosity, spontaneity, storytelling, knack for moving through obstacles and seeing the good in every situation, but most of all his infectious spirit that brought people together. He was notorious for taking the scenic route, the long way home, we will miss those adventures the most, Papi, now onward into the fog!
