Ellen was born on December 21, 1955 in Andrews, Texas; the daughter of Joe Doyle Camp and Virginia Ruth Green Camp.

She was married to Marvin Kent Whitmire on May 14, 1977 in Lubbock, TX and they moved to Artesia two days later.

She was preceded in death by her father Joe D. Camp and brother Donnie Camp.

She is survived by her husband Kent Whitmire of Artesia; mother Virginia R. Camp of Bastrop, TX; sons Josh Whitmire and wife Anna and Matt Whitmire and wife Kaci both of Artesia, NM; sister Carla Nutt and husband David of Irving, TX; sister-in-law Kim Kiplin of Austin, TX; grandchildren Trevor Whitmire, Triston Whitmire, Jett Whitmire, Jenna Whitmire, Jack Byers, Layton Whitmire, Beau Byers, and Tynlee Whitmire; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ellen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Her most treasured role was Christian. She was well-known for her love for Christ and the joy she found in him. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and had fond memories of the family there. Prior to being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Ellen enjoyed teaching bible class, playing on the church softball team, singing with the choir, and instructing Aerobic classes. Over the years, Ellen adored the conversations she had with friends while working at Love Bud Floral. The highlight of her week was taking motorcycle rides with her husband and their riding buddies. Ellen could always be heard in the stands cheering on her grandbabies at all of their sporting events.
She always did her best to bring fun and wit into a difficult situation. She would lighten the mood during doctor's appointments/chemo treatments and would kid around with her Hospice nurses. She was blessed by the Encompass team that tended to her. Jamie, Sierra, and Yvonne will always have a special place in the family's heart.
Her health did impact her outlook on life and she was determined to live each day to the fullest. She always had a smile on her face and never missed an opportunity to spend time or pray with a loved one. She had a personality and a laugh that would light up a room. Her joy came from her relationship and love for Jesus Christ.

Contributions can be made in Ellen's honor to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or Aten Ministries (www.a10s.org).
