Eduardo Ortega

January 31, 1942 — January 11, 2022

On January 11, 2022, Eduardo Ortega, beloved brother and Tio, was called to his eternal resting place at the age of 79. Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30 AM (Rosary), followed by Requiem Mass at 10:00 on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Fr. Francis Lazar will officiate the services. Burial will follow the services at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will include friends and family of Eduardo.

Eduardo was born to Benito U. Ortega and Maria S. Ortega on January 31, 1942 in Alpine, TX. The family moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1956 when Eduardo was 14 years of age. On June 20, 1966, Eduardo enlisted in the United States Army. After completing basic recruit training, he was sent to serve our country in Vietnam. While honorably serving, he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals for his actions during combat. His father Benito and brother Felix also served in the United States Army.

Eduardo thoroughly enjoyed life. He found satisfaction in helping others and loved his family and friends with all his heart. He was a very well loved and respected Tio to numerous nieces and nephews and had some of the most loyal friends anyone could ask for. He was a kind-hearted person who was easily approachable and friendly. His pets also meant the world to him. They would never leave his side.

Sports always brought happiness to Eduardo. He loved playing golf for many years. Football season was also one of his favorites. The San Francisco Forty-Niners was his favorite team. But he also loved Bulldog football. No matter where they played, he was always there to cheer them on. His all-time favorite sport hands down was baseball. He was a hard-core Cleveland Indians fan and followed the minor leagues as well.

Eduardo was preceded in death by his parents, Benito and Maria Ortega, his brothers Felix S. Ortega and Benito H. Ortega. He is survived by his sister, Josie Ortega Aguilar and her husband Frank Aguilar, both of Artesia. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and friends that loved him dearly. Rest in peace sweet brother, Tio, and friend. You will be missed.
