Beth Creswell

Beth Poulson Creswell passed away April 22, 2023 in Artesia, New Mexico.

Beth was born to Paul and Dollie Poulson on September 19, 1928 in Crosby County, Texas.

She attended school in Lorenzo, Texas. She went to college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. After graduation from Texas Tech with a B.S. in Education, she moved to Rowell, New Mexico to teach school. She met Harold, a pilot stationed at Walker Air Force Base and they were married on March 6, 1951 in Lubbock. Two months later Beth moved to Texas until Harold, a B29 pilot, returned home from Japan after completing his fifty missions in the Korean Conflict.

After living in California, Alabama, Massachusetts and Illinois, they returned to Lubbock. While Harold attended Texas Tech, Beth taught at the New Deal ISD. Upon Harold's graduation they moved to Artesia, New Mexico in 1957. She taught at Roselawn Elementary until she retired in 1990.

Beth was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Artesia Story League, Artesia Country Club Golf and Bridge Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Sigma Phi and the Association of Educational Retirees holding offices in all clubs.

Soon after retiring, she became a CASA volunteer. This became a big part of her life for twenty-two years advocating for sixty one children. For her dedication, she was awarded CASA volunteer of the year in New Mexico. She also enjoyed playing bridge, line dancing and fishing.

Beth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Thomas Poulson and George Wayne Poulson, a sister Dorothy Smith, and a daughter-in-law Connie Creswell.

Survivors include a son Art Creswell of Roswell, N.M.; daughters Christy Chaney and husband Jerry of Artesia, and Carol Mitchell and husband Clay of Slaton, Texas; grandchildren Robert Smith of Artesia, Joseph Smith of Alamogordo, NM, Sara Morales and husband Dan of Lubbock, Kadie Creswell of Los Lunas, NM, Abby Mitchell of San Angelo, Texas, Mathew Creswell of Carlsbad, NM, and Erin Hiatt and husband Dakota of Mountain Home Idaho; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Honoring their mother's wishes, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
