William Simer

Mr. Simer, 76, died on January 19, 2024 in Carlsbad.

Michael Elliot will officiate the services. 

Gene was born on December 10, 1947 in Artesia; the son of James Douglas Simer and Doris June Davis Simer.

First and foremost, Gene was a family man. He loved his family fiercely and unconditionally. His kids and grandkids were his pride and joy and he never missed an opportunity to tell them how much he loved and treasured them. Although he lived in Carlsbad, Artesia was his home and he made frequent trips to catch up with his brothers, sisters and extended family.

A close second to his love of family was his love of golf. Gene spent 50+ years enjoying the game of golf and later in life, after age 70, making three hole-in-ones. He was blessed to play courses nationwide enjoying trips with his golf buddies. These are some of his greatest golf memories.

Gene was a craftsman and loved to work with oak, building a number of wood projects for friends and family over the years. He could often be found in his cozy shop tinkering with tools or taking a smoke break with a large glass of iced tea with his cocker spaniels at his feet. 

Spring and summer were his favorite times of the year, always looking forward to planting flowers and growing the tastiest tomatoes.  He spent many summer days cleaning and maintaining his swimming pool for his beautiful wife and grandkids although he never swam.

Gene had a life well lived and will be dearly missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Simer; a daughter Genna Faulkenberry; a son Jody Simer and wife Marisa; brothers Doug Simer and wife Sheila, and Mike Simer and wife Nancy; sisters Ann Gidak and Sue Dean; brother-in-law Corky Wagner and wife Bobbie; grandchildren Ryan Simer, Cutter Faulkenberry, Adam Simer, Natalie Faulkenberry and fiancé Klay Cunningham.
