Wanda Waldrip

February 23, 1932 — October 3, 2025

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm Thursday, October 9, at First Baptist Church for Wanda Louise Waldrip. A viewing will be held from 10 am to 12 pm on Thursday at Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Mrs. Waldrip, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 2, 2025 in Gatesville, Texas.

Ty Houghtaling will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jake Waldrip, Josh Waldrip, Brandon Shields, Johnathan Johnson, Jesstin Gadbury and Joe Dan Green.

Wanda was born on February 23, 1932 in Mountainair, New Mexico; the daughter of James Dallas "Buster" Chisum and Mattie Verna Chisum. She graduated from Mountainair High School and attended New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, where she met J. Stanley Waldrip. They were married on August 26, 1950. Together they resided on several farms before settling on the family farm in Lakewood, NM in 1954. They lived there until 2021 before relocating to town in Artesia. Wanda was a bookkeeper for the farm and Lakewood Church. She also worked at Artesia Rural Water, Cottonwood Rural Water and Bennie's Western Wear. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a woman of deep faith who loved the Lord. Wanda loved playing games like bridge, bingo and dominoes with family and friends. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and there was not a puzzle she could not complete. She and Stanley were members of the Good Sams Club and made numerous trips in their RV. They loved camping in the mountains and taking annual fishing trips. They also made wonderful memories traveling when Stanley served on the PVT board.

A Christmas was not complete without Mamo's homemade candy and her famous, amazing mashed potatoes. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Billy Chisum, Jimmy Chisum and Larry Dale Chisum; sisters Betty Smith and Wilma Chisum; husband Stanley Waldrip and daughter Jan Shields.

She is survived by sons Randy Waldrip and dear friend Beva Catlin Miles, Bruce Waldrip and wife Jan, son-in-law David Shields; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Sue Rose and numerous nieces and nephews.
