Vera Tennant

Vera Caroline Tennant peacefully passed away on March 15, 2019 at the age of 100. A graveside service will be held in her honor at Woodbine Cemetery on Wednesday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. Fred McDonald will officiate at the service. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
She was born May 6, 1918 to William P. and Edith Lenora Foust in Cullman, Alabama. She married L. H. (Sonny) Tennant on March 27, 1938 and he died on September 17, 1997. She was a member of the Greatest Generation, learning the lessons of self-reliance, hard work and perseverance that were attributes throughout her life. She was a loving housewife, mother, grandmother , great grandmother and great great grandmother that enjoyed cooking and caring for her family and friends.
She was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed the love and support of her church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, five sisters and her husband.
She is survived by her children, Fay Hamner, Mike Tennant (Glenda), Sam Tennant (Betty) and Pam Runyan (Tom); grandchilden Michele Tennant, Todd Mays, Camille Graham, Suanne Bonnet (Richard) and Rusty Tennant; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family would like to publicly express their gratitude to those who have provided in home care for Vera during her failing health, especially Glenda Sessions, Prescilla Munoz , Alice Leyva (deceased), LuzElva Muniz, Tammy Neel and Encompass Hospice of Carlsbad.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Artesia or the Baptist Children's Home, 220 S. Avenue I, Portales, NM 88130.
