Tomasita Dimas Romo

June 28, 1931 — January 29, 2026

It comes with great sadness to announce that there will be a memorial service held for Tomasita "Tommie" Dimas Romo at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Terpening and Son Mortuary. Officiating will be Aaron Romo.

Tommie, 94, passed away January 29, 2026, in Artesia, NM. She was born on June 28, 1931, to Margarito and Lucita Dimas in Serafina, NM.

Tommie lived a beautiful and colorful life, embracing every opportunity and experience that came her way. Before making her home in Artesia, she continued to move between Texas and New Mexico, working hard on ranches. Tommie never backed down from a challenge, leading her to acquire a small business in Artesia, Kim's Drive In. After shutting those doors, she found a love for working at Palace Drug, where she worked for 15 years before retiring.

Tommie grew to love her community and was a very active member. She spent her time serving at the church or lending her time to the Zia Chapter of the Girl Scouts. You would find her every Sunday in church, expressing her deep love for Jesus Christ, and on Saturdays, she would bring that same determination to garage and yard sales, bargaining and often walking away knowing she had struck a perfect deal. Tommie was compassionate, strong-willed, and never afraid to stand her ground. These qualities made her remarkable and unforgettable.

She also loved taking a road trip to Ruidoso to the casino with her sister, Dolores, and her husband, Raymond. Tommie had a gift for connection; she could talk to anyone. When she moved into the nursing home here in Artesia, she quickly found a new place to call home. She made the hallways brighter and would be seen talking to the staff and the residents. She continued to share her love for Jesus Christ by joining in on the gospel music, singing, and clapping in the cafeteria on Sundays. One of her greatest joys was being a grandma. Visits from her family meant everything to her. She especially treasured time with her grandson Joey, sharing cheeseburgers, sipping sodas, and telling stories about her life. She would tell anyone who would listen about how much she loved her family.

Tommie is preceded in death by her father, Margarito, and mother, Lucita Dimas. Daughter JoAnne Romo. Sister Mary Agnes Sierra and brothers Billy, Joe, Ruben, and Henry Dimas. She is also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jimmy Whalen and Valerie Romo.

Her memory will continue to live with her remaining family. Brothers Alex Dimas, Tony Dimas, and sisters Eva Pidilla, Dolores Sanchez, Magdalena Sanchez, and Rose Dimas. Children Gilbert and Yolanda Romo, Fred and Shari Romo, and Terri and Don Gullion. Grandchildren Adrian Romo, Aaron Romo, Joey Romo, Vanessa Romo, Olivia Ruvalcaba, Gabrialle Romo, and Melanie Romo. She also has several great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. Several Nieces and Nephews and some great nieces and nephews.

Tommie touched countless hearts with her kindness, her humor, and her unwavering strength. She loved people, and people loved her right back. Her life was a testament to resilience, joy, and the beauty of connection, and her legacy will continue to live on in every story she shared and every smile she inspired.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Artesia Healthcare and Rehab Facility for all the love and care that they provided her.

The family would also like to invite anyone who knew or loved her to join them in celebrating her life.
