She had a gift for making people feel welcome and cared for. She loved visiting with family and friends, and tending to her garden. Some of her happiest memories came from family vacations and spur-of-the-moment road trips. No matter where the journey took her, she never met a stranger — just friends she hadn’t talked to yet. Her warmth, easy laughter, and genuine interest in others made every trip an adventure and every stop along the way a chance to connect.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gene Simer; and her sister, Ann Gidak.
She is survived by her daughters, DeNette Pinkerton of Georgetown, Texas; Sara and her husband Doug Kuperus of Sequim, Washington; and Lacey Dean of Artesia, New Mexico. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Katelynn and her husband Nevan Tan of Georgetown, Texas; Zack Vassar of Georgetown, Texas; Zoee Kuperus of Florence, Oregon; and William Kuperus of Sequim, Washington. She is also survived by her brothers, Doug and his wife Sheila Simer of Artesia, New Mexico, and Mike and his wife Nancy Simer of Artesia, New Mexico; her sister-in-law, Kay Simer of Midland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Cremation has taken place in Austin, Texas. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 6th at 1:00pm, at the Artesia Moose Lodge on 2701 W Main Street in Artesia, New Mexico.
