Samuel Paul Malone, 68, died on December 31, 2025 in Lubbock, Texas.
Sammy was born on April 6, 1957 in Artesia, New Mexico; the son of Kenneth Malone and Rosabelle Houghtaling Malone.
Sammy was born and raised in Artesia, New Mexico. He had a passion for baseball and played Little League for Bill Mayes. As he got older, he loved and trained his dog Luke with his good friend Bob Yates. He was also involved in Vo Ag and FFA where he was very successful in showing market pigs.
Sammy's long and varied work career started when he loaded hay for his uncles. He went on many hay trips with Uncle Bill. After high school, he moved to Grants where he worked in the uranium mines. He eventually found his way back to Artesia where he worked on rigs for a few years. He later worked for Gee Davis as a welders helper, and found his calling. There was nothing Sammy couldn't build with a cutting torch and welder. He loved pipeline welding, and eventually started his own business Malone Welding and Backhoe Services. In his most recent years, he worked as a relief pumper for Mark Hope.
In 1985, Sammy married Cassey Stoneman, and together they raised two kids. He loved the mountains and spent many weekends with his family on camping trips or out looking for good hunting spots. In his later years, you could find him sitting on the front porch visiting with his family or good friend Tracy Richardson and keeping a watchful eye on his chicken flock, or trying to win big at the casino!
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patty Taylor.
Survivors include his wife Cassey Malone; a daughter Laci Malone; a son J J Stoneman and Amber Rutherford; a brother Mike Malone; a sister Peggy Purcell; grandchildren Bailey Rutherford, Conner Stoneman, and Jaxen Malone.
