With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sammuel Joe Hayes Jr., “Sammy Joe” 39, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

Sammy Joe was born on February 9, 1987, in Dallas, Texas, to Connie (Crenshaw) Cartwright.

Sammy Joe grew up in Loco Hills, New Mexico, and lived in various places throughout his life. Most recently, he found a home, a sense of belonging, and a renewed purpose through New Life Church of God in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Sammy Joe’s journey through life was uniquely his own and to be a part of that journey was truly a blessing. Sam was a father, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, and a friend. His life was more than any struggles he faced, and he will be remembered for the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the memories he leaves behind.

Sammy Joe leaves behind his daughter, Mackenzie (her mother Rose Wallner); his mother, Connie Cartwright (Joe Clark); his sisters, Kimberly (Brayan), Amanda (Michael), Jennifer (Samuel), and brother, Barney (Lauren); his Aunts Teresa (Chris) and Lynette, Uncle Gary (Trish) along with several nieces, nephews, a multitude of cousins (he special relationship with Tyler),and friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Cal and Carol Crenshaw, his Aunts Missy Jo; and his niece, Bella Faye.

Although his time here on earth was far too short, Sammy Joe’s story will continue through the family and friends who loved him. May we remember him with grace, hold tightly to the good memories, and find comfort in knowing he is now resting in the arms of the Lord.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, October 9, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Terpening and Sons.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Artesia, New Mexico.
