Graveside services are scheduled at 10 am Friday, November 10 at Twin Oaks Memorial Park for Rosie Malone.

Mrs. Malone died peacefully November 6, 2023 at Artesia General Hospital after a recent illness.

Joby Houghtaling will officiate the services. There will be a viewing on November 9 from 2 to 6 pm at Terpening and Son Mortuary.

Rosie was born in Atoka, New Mexico on January 31, 1933 to Forrest Houghtaling and his wife Emmaline Vogel Houghtaling. She was the youngest of 7 children, and was the last surviving sibling. Her brothers and sisters included J.R. Houghtaling, Harold Houghtaling, Lucille Riley, Aline Amos, William "Boss Hog" Houghtaling, and Edith Roberts. She was a lifelong resident of Artesia, NM, attending Artesia Public Schools, and married and raised her family there.

Rosie married Kenneth "K.D." Malone on September 10, 1948, and they were married for 49 years, until his death in 1998. Rosie worked as a teller for 1st National Bank, bookkeeper for Baker Stevens Tire, and Hall Auto. She also worked for Mack Chase until her retirement.

Rosie and Kenneth had 4 children, Patty Taylor, Peggy Purcell, Mike Malone, and Sammy Malone.

Rosie was always active in her life, she played softball into her 50's, she loved working out in her backyard, going on her daily walks, and watching her grandchildren in any activity they were involved in. She attended many softball, volleyball, and basketball games as well as rodeos following her grandchildren.

Rosie Malone was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents Forrest and Emmaline, her 6 siblings, and her daughter Patty Taylor of Artesia, and daughter-in-law Danette Malone. She is survived by her 3 remaining children. Peggy Purcell and her husband Rick of Tucumcari, NM. Mike Malone of Artesia, NM and Sammy Malone and his wife Cassey of Artesia, NM. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren. Kelli Taylor and wife Grace, Payton Darrow and husband Justin, Lance Purcell and wife Johnna, Chris Purcell and wife Jessica, JJ Stoneman and wife Amber, Laci Malone, Michelle Lee, and Danielle Malone. As well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Lance, Chris, JJ, Justin, as well as her sons-in-law Rick Purcell and Tommy Taylor. Honorary pallbearer will be Marvin Thompson, her companion later in life.
