Ricky Apperson passed October 6, 2026, at his home.

Ricky was born September4, 1969, in Hobbs, New Mexico. The son of Douglas MacArthur and Wanda Janell (Mathews) Apperson. He was a longtime resident of Artesia, New Mexico.

He loved firefighting; he enjoyed his work with Pecos Valley Wildfire and the bonus family he made there. He loved racing dirt tracks himself and watching Nascar on TV. He enjoyed building his pit fires and hanging out with family and friends.

Survivors include wife Christy (Bethel) Apperson and son Brian Dale Apperson, uncle Bill Mathews and wife Marva, several cousins and sister-in-laws in Texas area.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mack and Janell Apperson, son Shawn Apperson, grandfather and grandmother Bill and Ruth Mathews, aunts and uncles Janice Harlow and husband Chester, Helen Helton and husband Shockey.
