With the addition of his son Michael and daughter Tera to his family, he took on a second part-time job as an apprentice at a funeral home in Georgia and it was here that he found his calling to the funeral industry. After being discharged from the Army, he attended Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon where he obtained a degree in funeral services. He was the owner/operator of Kinsey Funeral Home and Montrose Valley Funeral home before leaving Montrose in 1987. Richard continued his career in the funeral industry working on the west coast in several locations in California, Oregon, and Washington before retiring in 2012.
