Peggy Fay (Johnson) Montgomery, age 72, passed away Thursday evening, November 13, 2025, in Plano, Texas with her husband Danny, her son Justin, and daughter-in-law Angela by her side.
Peggy was born on April 27, 1953, to Henry Oliver and Wilmoth Fay (Newton) Johnson in Roswell, NM. When she was nine years old, her family moved from Roswell to Pinon to live on the family ranch. For Peggy, life on the ranch was seventh heaven. She went to school at Penasco School, then Weed High School, graduating in 1971 as class salutatorian.
Peggy met Danny Montgomery when he came up to the ranch to work for the weekend. They went to a dance, started going steady, and dated for three years before marrying on Sept. 10, 1971. Together, they shared 54 years of marriage as the love of each other’s life.
Later, they welcomed their two boys, Earl and Justin. The family made their home in Pinon on the family ranch. Peggy’s family was the joy of her life. They took great pride in raising livestock together and watching their family grow. She was a ‘fair mom,’ spending many days at the county and state fairs, watching her boys show livestock.
Peggy was an excellent hostess, opening her home to kids in the community for trick or treating, decorating Christmas cookies, and putting on her annual Easter egg hunts. Her love for sewing, crafting and solving puzzles was shared with friends and family. She was a sorry speller and cheater at checkers, but she was a great Skip-Bo player and teacher.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Danny; son Justin and wife Angela; granddaughters Kayla Lee and husband Garrett, Tayler Hammack, Alexis Mitchell and husband Jake, Emma Montgomery, Bradie Hammack; and great-granddaughters Tessa and McKenzi Lee. She is also survived by her sister Kelly Hibbard and husband Mitch; sisters-in-law Donna Blevins and Linda Jackson; brothers-in-law Tommy Montgomery and wife Brenda, Jack Coupland, Bobby Melton; aunt Marilyn Johnson, cousins Mark Johnson and Michelle Pattison; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who she loved dearly.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents; her son Earl; her sisters Sue and Dana; her parents-in-law T.W. and Effie Montgomery; brother-in-law Bobby Blevins; niece Callie Calloway; nephew Jerry Coupland; and daughter-in-law Katie (Hight) Hammack.
