Metta Bannister

Graveside services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 29, at South Park Cemetery in Roswell, N.M. for longtime Roswell resident Metta V. Bannister of Schertz, Texas. Mrs. Bannister, 97, died Monday, September 26, 2005 in San Antonio, Texas. Rev. Robbie Boyd will officiate at the services. No visitation is planned. Mrs. Bannister was born August 26, 1908 in Omaha, Nebraska; the daughter of Harry Goddard and Flora Cravens Goddard. On May 15, 1926 she was married to Edwin E. Bannister in Cleveland County, Oklahoma. She was a Roswell resident from 1937 until 1996 when she moved to Texas. Her husband preceded her in death in 1956. She had been employed as a bookkeeper for Pecos Valley Drug Store while in Roswell. Survivors include a son Edwin Bannister of Schertz, Texas; a daughter Merle Jones of Newark, Delaware; and several grandchildren including Mary Catherine Watley of Alvin, Texas.
