Kathleen Valenzuela

Kathleen Valenzuela, beloved Spouse, Daughter, Sister, Mother, and Grandmother, earned her angel wings on June 18, 2025. She was surrounded by her family and her closest friends. Kathleen was born on May 31, 1964 in Artesia, NM, the daughter of Proto and Cecilia Leyva. She is survived by her spouse Javier Valenzuela; son Kyle Leyva; step-sons Jacob and Joshua Valenzuela; mother Cecilia Leyva; sister Deannie Hernandez and husband Art; brother Robert Leyva and wife Angela; sister Annalisa Zapata and son Ryan; grandchildren Austin Elijah and Remy Elena Leyva. She was preceded in death by her father Proto Leyva.

Kathleen graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1996 with a degree in nursing. She was a caring and discerning registered nurse. She had a love and passion for her job and an equal compassion for her patients. It pained her deeply when she could no longer continue working.

On June 7, 2008, Kathleen married the love of her life and angel on earth, Javier Valenzuela. They created many beautiful memories during their years together. Kathleen loved life and enjoyed visiting and playing games with her family and friends. Kathleen was an active member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God Church. She loved God and never hesitated to proclaim Him as her Lord and Savior!

Kathleen's funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24 at Trinity Temple Assembly of God. Pastor Stephen Smithwick will officiate the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Visitation will be at Terpening and Son Mortuary on Monday at 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Pallbearers include Ryan Zapata, Matthew Sedillo, Noel Rodriguez, Rodney Rodriguez, Gilbert Grado, and Gabriel Grado.
