Services are scheduled for 10 am Monday, July 20, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Mary C. Chavez of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Chavez, 80, died on July 13, 2026 in Roswell, New Mexico.

A viewing is scheduled for 8:30 am Monday at Our Lady of Grace, followed by a rosary at 9:30 am. Burial will take place at Twin Oaks Memorial Park following the services. Pallbearers will be Herman Chavez, Otis Chavez, Isiah Chavez, Alyssa Chavez, Carlos Garcia, and Chris Pacheco.

Mary was born on August 15, 1945 in Artesia: the daughter of Manuel Heredia and Angelita Gonzales Heredia. She was a lifelong resident of Artesia. She was married to Jesus B. Chavez. He preceded her in death.

She worked as a housekeeper for many years. She enjoyed cooking, going to play the slot machines at the casino and spending time with her family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Mackie Chavez, grandson Otis Chavez Jr., and sisters Mary Elizabeth Heredia, Tina Gamez and Ramona Barrera.

Survivors include her sons Otis Chavez and Herman Chavez; a sister Enidina Mendoza; grandchildren Isiah Chavez, Alyssa Chavez; and by great-grandchildren Zion Chavez and Kino Chavez.
