Marilyn Yvonne Cox Everett, 90, of Winnsboro, LA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Plantation Manor Nursing Home in Winnsboro.
Marilyn was born September 13, 1935 in Artesia, New Mexico to Irving Samuel Cox and Anna Lou Keller. She married Van Buren Everett on August 30, 1953 and together they had five children; Vance, Kent, Kimberly, Scott & William. Once her children all reached school age, Marilyn became a teacher's aide. At the end of the year, she was encouraged by her mentor to continue her education and in 1972, she graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education & Music. She won the award given by the school of music for having the highest-grade point in all subjects. The same year, her son Vance graduated from high school as a national honor roll student, and Kimberly graduated from junior high school. Marilyn went on to receive her M.A. in Elementary Education & Music and graduated in 1975, the same year Kimberly graduated from high school. Marilyn accepted a job at Eugene Field Elementary School and taught music for 15 years, then moved into a 4th grade classroom for the next 15+ years.
Marilyn loved a lot of things, she loved her God, His Word, Christ & His church. She loved her family and teaching. She loved music and humor. She loved people.
Ninety years is a long time to live, but her years were well lived. She brought a wonderful quality to life that greatly enriched and motivated the lives of those who knew her. She lived a life that was marked by a great dedication and commitment that was evidenced by the sharing of a great love!
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Cox, and her sons William Irving Everett, Kent Taylor Everett and Scott Randall Everett.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 72 years, Van Buren Everett, one son Charles Vance Everett, one daughter Kimberly Everett Lord, grandchildren; Vanessa Everett Miller, Christopher Everett, Alex Everett, Tiffany Everett DePetris, Amy Everett, Randalleigh Everett, Taylor Jason Everett, Tristen Everett, Sarah Lord; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, October 31, 2025 at Dennard First National Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with the services following at 3:00 pm in the chapel. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Artesia, NM.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of PMNH, and especially LaKeisha Bell (our sister in Christ), for the love and compassion extended to us during our loved one's final hours.
