Linda Mae Alford Newton

Linda Mae Alford Newton passed away June 1, 2026, Surrounded by the love of her family. She was born to Roscoe and Icie Stigall Alford on June 26, 1942, in Portales, New Mexico. She attended school in Rogers, New Mexico until moving to Artesia in January of 1952, considering herself class of 1960. Linda was a member of the chorus and band where she was known to tell that she played in the first Football State championship and marched on that field as a member of the band. She was also a member of the debate team.

She was the mother of Debra "Debbie" Morrison, Willie; Robin Parra; Kevin Newton, Roxana all of Artesia; Liana McAlister, Brian of Clovis. Grandmother of 12 grandchildren and great grandmother of 19 great grandchildren. She was also referred to as grandma and meme to many of their friends who also had a part of her heart.

Her favorite thing to do was attend as many of their little league, softball, football, baseball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball games as she could "cram" into her schedule. As well as their chorus and band concerts, pig shows, etc. She also loved drag races from the high school on to Houston, along with attending baseball, football, basketball, and hockey games. Needless to say, she was a "sport addict! Just ask Coach Henderson. She was considered to be a permanent fixture for "Bulldog Sports." She also loved country music concerts.

Her brothers included Jerry and Debbie Alford of Houston, TX and Ken "Neal" Alford of Flagstaff, AZ. She had numerous nieces and nephews who she also attended as many of their activities, graduations, weddings, etc. as she could.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Stephen Wayne Morrison; brother "Robbie" Alford; sister in law Betty Alford; sister in law Chris Alford; son in law Benny Parra.

She considered her co-workers at J.S. Ward and Son over the years as family along with their spouses and children.

Linda's grandchildren included Kathy and Mark Terry; Melissa Morrison; Jessica and Wilbur Martinez; Laura and Michael Wadkins; Michael and Stephanie Parra; Jeff and Sharayah Parra; Kalie Reeves and A.J. Ferguson; Kaleb Newton; Erica and Curtis Portio; Ryan Curry; Laci Curry and TJ Edwards; and Lane McAlister; great grandchildren included McKenna, Demrie, Madison, Meagen, Hayden, Jarren, Brenden and Maddy Shaw, Bryce, Brody Brecklyn, Carson Delainy, Skylin, Aspen, Blake Kole, Zaelynn, Bennie, and Caden.

A private family gathering will take place as Linda did not wish for a service.

We want to thank everyone at Artesia Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for everything they have done. They took amazing care of her and she loved them. "Her girls"
