Obituary

Judy Carol Stoops was born on June 10, 1944 to Willie and Julia Stoops in Denver, Colorado. Her father was serving in World War II at the time of her birth.

She went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 19, 2026.

Judy's father took her and her family to Pentecostal church until the age of 3. Then her grandma Brownlee took them to North Swansea Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado, where she was later led to the Lord by her dad and baptized. Judy attended North Swansea Baptist with her family until the age of 18.

Judy was hired at Gardner Denver where she worked for a few years. She married Ed Hickey on October 16, 1964. They had one son Montie born on October 10, 1970. In 1980 they started attending Adams City Baptist Church in Commerce City, Colorado where Ed was senior Pastor. Judy served at Adams City Baptist as a church secretary. In 1990 Judy moved her family to Artesia, NM, Centre Avenue Baptist Church, where Ed was called as Senior Pastor. They moved to Artesia as a family of 3 but quickly grew to a larger family through marriage and adopting the Tucker, Shannon and Davis Families.

Judy enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grand-son. She loved surfing the internet, checking her emails, completing internet surveys, and reading her kindle. She witnessed to anyone who entered her home, and was even known to witness to any sales representatives that called her number. In her last few days she was a witness to her medical staff.

Judy was preceded in death by: her parents Willie and Julia Stoops, Ed Hickey, one sister Janette Holford, one brother-in-law Bob Holford, two daughters, one granddaughter and two nephews.

She is survived by her son Montie Hickey his wife Genia and grand-son Ryan, Sister Diane Plack, and Brother Bill Stoops, one niece and 5 nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Celebration of Life services for Judy Stoops will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 3:00 pm at the New Hope Baptist Church in Artesia, New Mexico.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the New Hope Baptist Church.
