Jose Porras

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM, Friday, August 6, 2021 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Jose Calderon Porras of Artesia, New Mexico.

Fr. Vijay will officiate at the services. Burial will follow the services at Carlsbad Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Gallegos, Ismael Jr. Porras, Emilio Valdez, Omar Gallegos, Santana Porras, and Jonah Perez. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Porras and James Perez. A rosary is also scheduled for 6:30 pm Thursday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary on Thursday beginning at 12 pm to 4 pm.

Mr. Porras 88, died Monday, August 2, 2021 at his home in Artesia.

Jose was born in Barrancos de Guadalupe, Mexico on September 19, 1932 to Jose Porras Sr. and Cruz Calderon. He then moved to Artesia, New Mexico in September of 1964 where he worked and retired as a farm laborer.

On November 2, 1955 he married the love of his life, Maria. In 65 years of marriage they had 8 children.

Jose was a very hardworking and humble man who loved his family. His priority was making sure his family had what they needed. He enjoyed being outside gardening, telling stories about his children and giving advice. There was never a day when he didn't lend a listening ear or shoulder to cry on. He also loved watching Western Movies. He was always there with his heart of gold.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Ismael Porras and by three sisters.

Survivors include his wife Maria Porras of Artesia; sons Arturo Porras of Artesia, Israel Porras and wife Manuela of Artesia, and Gabriel Porras and wife Tina of Artesia; daughters Olivia Gallegos of Artesia, Imelda Porras of Artesia, Elizabeth Porras of Roswell, NM, and Esther Lara and husband Joe of Roswell; brothers Bernardo Porras of Midland, Texas, Enrique Porras of Midland, and Manuel Porras of Mesa, Arizona; a sister Juana Porras of Ojinaga, Mexico; 30 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
