John King

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, at First Baptist Church for John Conditt King of Artesia, New Mexico.

John (JC) Conditt King went to be with his Lord January 8,2018.

Ty Houghtaling will officiate at the service.

John King was born May 4,1929 on a farm near Tahoka, TX to Arthur O. and Esther King. John attended school in Tahoka until fourth grade when his family moved to Dora, NM in 1939. John attended and graduated from Dora High School in 1946. That fall John took a job on a ship carrying horses to Poland, a war tom country. Later moving to Carlsbad, NM where John worked for U.S. Potash Company. In June of 1949 John married Mary Louise Duncan. John and Mary moved to Artesia when the potash mine closed and John worked for the National Guard which John joined at the age of seventeen; moving up in ranks to Lt. Col. serving in the National Guard and Army Reserve for 47 years. While in the National Guard, John continued his education, attending many military schools throughout his years of service.

John worked for American National Insurance for 27 years. John loved people and was a friend to many. John was a member of the Senior Center and played shuffleboard traveling all over the State for 12 years winning many gold medals. His favorite place was in the Sacramento Mountains at our JRK cabin. John always enjoyed the deer, elk, turkeys and other wildlife and said he felt closer to God there. John loved eagles and his wife said he was the wind beneath her wings; he also enjoyed hymns sung by his nephews.

John was a deacon at First Baptist Church Artesia for several years, taught Sunday School Classes, served on the kitchen, wedding, baptismal committees and worked parking lot security duty along with other deacons of the Church.

John was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Arthur O. King Jr. and his wife Delma.

John is survived by his wife Mary of the home, a son John Michael King his wife Beverly, a grandson Alex King of NC and extended family Jason Slane his wife Mary and their daughter Olivia of Amarillo, TX.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
