John Crook

Services are scheduled for 10 am Thursday, February 3, at First Baptist Church for John W. Crook of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Crook, 69, died on January 27, 2022 at his home in Artesia after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ty Houghtaling will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joby Morris, Hector Montanez, Spencer Crook, Trae Montoya, Tristen Montoya and Daxten Montanez. Honorary Pallbearers are Boyd Lard, Brad Morris, Lewis Needham, Ray Taylor, Randy Taylor, Cody Taylor, Mike Simer, Charlie Mulcock, Jim Harwell, and Mark Crook. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 2 to 6 pm on Wednesday.

Johnny was born on August 10, 1952 in Artesia, New Mexico; the son of Thomas Arthur Crook and Charlene Needham Crook. He was a lifelong resident of the Artesia area.

On May 26, 2000 he was married to Patricia Lucas in Lake Arthur, New Mexico.

Johnny loved and adored his wife, Pat, Johnny also loved his family and was most happy when they were all around. He was a loyal friend and a loving husband. He had numerous nephews and nieces which he loved very much and loved having around. He loved his friends, farming and ranching, water skiing, tractor pulls, and car racing. Johnny started farming at a young age on the family farm with his dad, which developed into a lifelong passion. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and made sure no one wanted for anything. Johnny was constantly building and working on his hot rods which brought him so much joy. Johnny lived his life helping others, even in his final days. The imprint he left on the lives of his children, grandchildren, family, and friends is immeasurable and he will be forever missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Crook; children Kathleen Crook and wife Kristina Crook, Robert Crook, Carla Parra, Candace Montanez and husband Hector, Chase Roberts and husband Nick Kelly; a brother Mark Crook and wife Denise; sisters Pat Ivans and husband Larry, and Janie Morris and husband Brad; He has eleven grandchildren; Spencer Crook, Sterling Crook, Grayce Limberios, Alexis Montoya, Trae Montoya, Tristen Montoya, Daxten Montanez, Madalyn Montanez, Hayden Montanez, Hudson Kelly, and Colt Kelly; one great-grandchild, Emery Sosa.
