John Bennett

Services are scheduled at 10:00AM Monday, March 11, at First Baptist Church for John Jack Collins Bennett, 1001 Centre Ct., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Bennett, 90, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center in Artesia. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Shawn Geary, Heath Geary, Anthony Johnson, Bennett Horand, Mike Simons, Paul Hudson. Honorary pallbearers will be David Simons, Dr. Johnny Moreno, Dr. Owen Taylor, Carl A. Lane and all fishing and coffee drinking buddies. Mr. Bennett was born June 12, 1911 in Jasonville, Indiana; the son of John Scott Bennett and Estelle Noel Bennett. On June 18, 1932 he was married to Irene Clayton in Hammond, Indiana. He came to Artesia in 1951 from Clinton, Indiana. She preceded him in death Feb. 23, 1982. He was later married to Lorena Lane on Sept. 15, 1982 in Artesia. He was a supervisor at the potash mines and a member of First Baptist Church, a deacon, and the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Survivors include wife Lorena Bennett of the family home; daughters Janice Bennett and husband Ronald Johnson of Cottonwood, Arizona, Judith Schroeder and husband Bill of Willow Springs, Missouri, Jacquie Geary and husband Max of Clayton, N.M.; step-son Carl Lane and wife Ann of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in Artesia or Artesia Good Samaritan Center.
