John Allison

August 15, 1926 — November 6, 2001

Graveside services are scheduled at 2:00 PM Friday, November 9, at Woodbine Cemetery for John Claxton Allison, 412 W. Missouri, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Allison, 75, died Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at Artesia General Hospital in Artesia. Gavin Vaughn will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephew Wayne Allison. Mr. Allison was born August 15, 1926 in Walnut Hill, Florida; the son of John Henry Allison and Arilia Miriam Sikes Allison. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On Oct. 4, 1948, he was married to Jackie McDonald in Carlsbad, NM. He came to Artesia in 1964 from El Paso, Texas. He was a barber and graduated from Barber School in 1949. He was a member of the Baptist denomination and a lifetime member the N.M. DAV. Mr. Allison was preceded in death by parents, sister Ann Hartman, brothers Henry Allison, Bill Allison, and James Allison. Survivors include wife Jackie Allison of Artesia; daughters Linda Nowak and husband Eddie of Roswell, N.M., Janet Bean and husband Mickey of Artesia, Shirley Maxwell and husband Scott of Carlsbad, N.M.; sisters Doris Engle of Artesia and Margie Millican of Artesia; brothers William F. Allison of Rio Rancho, N.M. and Rev. C. W. Allison of Atmore, Alabama; grandchildren Eddie Nowak of Artesia, Tony Nowak of Hagerman, N.M., Stacy Stapleton of Roswell, Abby Archer of Artesia, John Bean of Artesia, Scott Maxwell of Carlsbad, and Sheldon Maxwell of Carlsbad; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
