Jo Ann Mayberry

April 24, 1937 — June 30, 2025

A memorial service was held at the home of Jo Ann Mayberry at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 in Artesia, NM. Her ashes were interred at Woodbine cemetery alongside her husband.

Mrs. Mayberry, 88, died peacefully on June 30, 2025 at her home in Artesia, surrounded by her family. West Pape, longtime family friend, officiated at the service.

Jo Ann was born April 23, 1937 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, the daughter of Joe Evans Nunn and Kathryn Smith Nunn. She graduated from Artesia High School in 1955. Many of her lifelong friends were members of her graduating class. One of her greatest joys was maintaining these relationships and organizing their class reunions.

She married Bob L. Mayberry, of Artesia, on December 29, 1956. Bob was her best friend and her greatest love. The two of them were inseparable. Together they made their home on the family farm in Cottonwood, where they raised their three children and were surrounded by grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The farming community and way of life were dear to them. Those farm families were the basis for friendships that have continued through the generations.

Jo Ann was actively involved in the Artesia community. She was a faithful member of Hermosa Church of Christ and provided unwavering support to her church, her family, and her community. She quietly supported many charitable causes important to her and her family. Among these were the purchase of a residential home for The Bridge (a sober living facility) in Artesia, the construction of the Hermosa Church of Christ building in Artesia, the drilling of wells in Ethiopia and Haiti to provide clean drinking water, the acquisition of land for Habitat for Humanity in Artesia, the purchase of an ultrasound machine for Oasis Pregnancy Center in Artesia, providing food and education for children through the Kenya Widows and Orphans Ministries, funding mobile medical clinics in Haiti through the Community Health Initiative, assisting with the start-up and ongoing needs of Artesia Classical Academy, helping finance the purchase of a residential home for the Genesis Project (a safe haven for single moms and children in crisis) in Greeley, Colorado, and the construction of two homes for single parents and their children at the New Mexico Christian Children's Home in Portales.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Mayberry, and her parents.

Survivors include:
