Jerry Johnson

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 14, at Woodbine Cemetery for Jerry Lynn Johnson of Artesia, New Mexico.


Mr. Johnson, 69, died March 11, 2019 at his home.

Pastor Bobby Argo will officiate at the service. Pall bearers will be Dalton Sanders, Shawn Lavery, Kyle Burress, Tater Sanders, Joey Fuson and Christopher Bolen. Honorary pall bearers are Garlin (Red) Willingham, Tex James, Danny Carroll and Chris Allen.

Jerry was born August 11, 1949 in Abilene, TX; son of Stanley Johnson and Mary (Brantely) Johnson.


Jerry is survived by wife, Kathy; 3 daughters, Eydie Harrell and Joey Fuson of Carlsbad, NM, Lahonya C-Lopez of Artesia, NM, Kesha Lavery and husband Shawn of Edgewood, NM; 6 grandchildren, the oldest is Lissa Holly and Chris Allen of Carlsbad, NM, Christopher Bolen of Massachusetts, Leticia Garcia of Artesia, NM, Dalton Sanders of Midland, TX, Tambra Burress and husband Kyle of Dora, NM, Amber Lavery of Edgewood, NM along with 3 great grandkids; sister Cheryl Ricketts of Oklahoma; brother Billy Wayne Harrell of Farmington; several nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by both parents and older brother Dennis Harrell.

Jerry grew up in Mayhill, NM and graduated Cloudcroft High School. Jerry was a auto mechanic his whole life. His hobbies included playing the guitar, building hot rods, dune buggies, fishing, waterskiing, anything outdoors and spending time with his family. Family was everything to him. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Jerry was full of life and had a good sense of humor. He always had a joke to tell. He retired from the City of Artesia in 2016.
