Jerry Woodrow Dodd

Services for Jerry are scheduled at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 22, 2025 at Hermosa Church of Christ. John Parker will officiate the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery.

Jerry Woodrow Dodd was born on October 10, 1941, in Seymour, Texas to Woodrow “Woody” and Martha (Glaze) Dodd. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on December 14, 2025.

He is survived by his three children, Bianka Landavazo (Vern), Darin Dodd (Cheridy), and Mitzi McCaleb (Eric); grandchildren, Chance Scarborough (Morgan), Brian McCaleb, Jordan Landavazo, Austin Dodd, Braedin Dodd, and Carson Dodd; and great-grandchildren, Mayci Scarborough, Casen Scarborough, and Madi Scarborough, his sister, Sharon Gibson, sister-in-law, Mary Evans, brother-in-law, Jackey Rodgers (Nancy) and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Sue, granddaughter, Lauren Landavazo, and sisters, Nell Marler and Judy Maples.

After graduating from Eunice High School in 1960, Jerry was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served for two years as an Air Defense Specialist at Hohenfels Army Base in Germany. Upon returning home, he met the love of his life, Sue Rodgers. The two were married on January 12, 1968, in El Paso, Texas, and later that same year they made their home in Artesia, NM where they built a beautiful life together and raised two children, Darin and Mitzi. Married for over 49 years, Jerry deeply loved Sue and continued to cherish her memory each day following her passing on December 7, 2016.

Jerry was truly a people person. He loved visiting with others and made countless lifelong friends, many among his co-workers at Empire Abo Gas Plant, where he worked for over 30 years. The bond shared between those men lasted throughout his life, and their friendship brought him great joy. In addition to his Empire Abo group, his high school alumni from Eunice, NM, held a unique bond that lasted his entire lifetime. The friendships he formed while growing up in Eunice were among his most treasured memories, and he continued to stay in touch with many of them since his graduation.

Equally special were Jerry’s neighbors, who watched out for him, cooked for him, and treated him like family. Their kindness and care meant the world to him, and our family will be forever grateful for those relationships that filled his days with friendship, comfort, and love.

You could always find Jerry on his front porch, visiting with friends and sharing stories. He never missed a chance to attend or cheer at his grandkids’ school and sporting events - each one of them lovingly called him “Bob,” a nickname that stuck through the years and became how many of his friends and family fondly knew him.

Jerry will be remembered as one of the most caring and gentle souls you could ever meet. Generous and kind - sometimes to a fault - his value lied in people far more than possessions.

Jerry’s life was a reflection of Philippians 2:3-4, which reminds us to “value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but to the interests of others.” He lived that truth daily - humble, kind, and always ready to lend a hand, offer encouragement or share a smile. Those who knew Jerry would agree that he embodied the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

His quiet strength and caring heart were gifts to everyone around him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, reminding all who know him that the greatest treasures in life are found in the people we love.
