Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, at West Main Baptist Church for Jaylon Henry Earl of Artesia, New Mexico.

Jaylon Earl, 14, died April 27, 2019 at his home in Artesia.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nemicio Hernandez, Nehemiah Hernandez, Oscar Aguilera, Rodney Mills, Zach Lara, Rodney Earl, Cole Kinnibrugh, Aaron Bishop, Clarence Sentell Jr., and Dwayne Oliver.

Jaylon was born July 6, 2004 in Carlsbad N.M., the son of Jarrod and Erin (Elrod) Earl. He was a lifelong Artesia resident.

Jaylon was a kind soul with a big heart, but because of his shy nature only those closest to him saw him for who he truly was. He had a smile that could light up the room and an infectious laugh. He was sweet and loyal and a fierce protector of his siblings, cousins, and friends. Jaylon enjoyed hunting and hiking around the family ranch, playing video games, hanging out with his friends and cousins, spending time with his sister, and playing with his baby brother.

Survivors include his parents, Jarrod and Erin Earl of the family home; sister Kirsten Elrod-Gabaldon; brothers Austin and Kingston Earl; grandmothers Esther Kay Earl and the late Henry Earl, and Debbie Chavez and husband Joe; grandfather Deryl Elrod and wife Nancy; aunts Staci Guy and husband Reggie, Jacqueline Robinson and husband Roosevelt of Houston, TX, and Debra Earl; uncles Raynard Earl and Kenneth Earl; Jackson Guy, Mollie Guy, R.C. and Mary Alice Perry, Jamar Dickey, Lance Earl, Devin Haynes, Vanessa Chavez, Gabriel Chavez, Sergio Chavez, Ramiro Frescas, and Adriana Frescas, and numerous cousins and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by Mat Elrod, Joe Lynn Harrison, Wayne Bedingfield, Henry Earl, Sandra Odum Bailey, James & Eula Odum, and Marian & James Gray.

Services will be streaming live at westmain.net.
