Our hearts were deeply saddened on Monday, October 2, 2023 when Glenna “Jane” Garber-Segura entered eternal rest after a brief illness at her home in Odessa, Texas.

Mrs. Segura was the daughter of the late Mr. Glen and Rev. Mrs. Fannie Schwartz-Garber of Johnson City, TN.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Segura was preceded in death by her former husband, Terry Donk, TX; four brothers, Victor Garber, LeRoy Garber, Bennie Garber, and Michael Garber and one sister, Elizabeth Garber-Campbell.

Jane was a feisty spitfire from day one. She was a daddy’s girl, who loved pretty things.  Among her favorite things were cigarettes, diet coke, fishing, and playing cards.  Her early years were spent growing up in the “big house” on Roan Street in Johnson City, TN, where she had fun playing with her brothers and cousins.  She literally had a bird’s eye view of all that happened on Roan Street.  She often climbed out of her two-story bedroom and to the big oak tree, where she’d sit for hours.  She enjoyed high places, both literally and figuratively.  She wasn’t afraid of falling nor failing.  And, if she was afraid, you’d never know it.  She had more grit and determination than most.

Despite the physical miles between she and her Schwartz and Garber families, she worked hard to stay connected with those she loved.  “Aunt Jane” was always fun!  Her nieces and nephews would count the days until her anticipated visits.  She doated on family, sending beautifully wrapped packages, thoughtful handwritten notes, and special surprises.  She loved the ocean and would often talk about the family trips to Daytona where she would wake up extra early to watch the sunrise with “Grandmother Schwartz.”

Jane also loved time with Jesse.  She frequently bragged to family about how Jesse tenderly cared for her.  They enjoyed road trips to the mountains and playing slots at the casinos.  She was happy to simply be with Jesse, and could be just as content at home, having a burger and watching tv or playing a game of Rummy.

Jane was highly passionate, and extraordinarily talented.  However, she was quite modest about her natural abilities.  She painted beautiful pictures and was an exceptional pianist.  She spent many hours playing piano at her family’s home and in church.  Although Jane did not want to leave Jesse, she anticipated reuniting with her family in heaven. She never claimed to be perfect.  She was clear to speak her mind.  She loved deeply.  She prayed.  She was thankful for the blessings of grace, family, and life.

Those who remain include her loving husband, Jesse Segura, TX; one son, Joe Donk, TX; one stepdaughter Stephanie and Robert Sanchez of Roswell, NM; two stepsons Jason and Christina Segura of Artesia, NM, and Jamie Segura and fiancé Staci Chavarria of Artesia, NM; several step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews who adored her immensely; and special friends Ronnie and LaDonna Johnson, TX.
