James Edward Hunter, known as Jimmy to everyone that knew him, was born in Tucumcari, New Mexico, on May 2, 1962. The family settled in Artesia during his grade school years, and he called Artesia home for the majority of his life. Jimmy worked in the oil and gas industry for many years and gained many lifelong friends during that time, but Jimmy was most proud of being a truck driver, which he did throughout his life. Jimmy passed away on April 29, 2026, in El Paso from complications arising from ongoing health issues.
Jimmy is survived by Amanda Hunter; his daughters, Morgan Hunter of Artesia and Liberty Hampton of Roswell; grandson, Phelan Davis of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law Donna Hunter of Odessa, Texas; three brothers and one sister; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on May 30, 2026, at Terpening and Sons Mortuary. Family and friends are encouraged to attend to share their memories, funny stories, or work stories of Jimmy, or anything that reminds them of this larger than life man.
