Ignacio Romero

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 15 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lake Arthur, New Mexico for Ignacio R. Romero.

Mr. Romero, 82, died April 10, 2019 at Artesia General Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.

Fr. Martin Cordero will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Lake Arthur Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Romero, Jaime Castillo, Alfonso Ballard, Cruz Munoz, Ezekiel Munoz, and Cedric Cota.

Visitation will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Sunday beginning at 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited Sunday at church at 6:30 p.m.

Ignacio was born December 28th, 1936 in San Ignacio, New Mexico to Eligio and Olympia (Gonzales) Romero. He was a lifelong resident of the small town of Lake Arthur, New Mexico. On June 11th, 1960 he married Gumersinda Nunez in Lake Arthur, New Mexico at Our Lady Guadalupe Church. He was employed at Lake Arthur Schools for twenty-five years. He was a devout member of the Catholic Church, a past member of Knights of Columbus of the Roswell Division and also a past member of the Lake Arthur Water Co-op.

He's preceded in death by his parents Eligio and Olympia Romero. His in-laws Reymundo and Anita Nunez. Son; Reginaldo Romero. Sister; Lucille Romero. Sister-in-law; Delfina Guitterez. Daughter-in-law; Mary Romero.

Survivors include his wife Gumersinda "Sandy" Romero. Sons; Jose Mario and Adam John of the Home. Ignacio Romero Jr. and wife Selina of Las Cruces. Vernardo Romero of Lake Arthur. Daughters; Teresa Romero of the Home. Anita Muñoz and husband Cruz of Artesia. Patricia Romero of Lake Arthur. Brother; Jose Vivian Romero and wife Elizabeth of Topeka, Kansans. Sisters; Tila Leal and husband Roberto of Roswell, New Mexico. Marie Peralta and husband Ray of Hagerman, New Mexico. Lupe Cota and husband Fred of Portales, New Mexico. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was blessed with six granddaughters, six grandsons, and one cute curled headed great-grand daughter named Amethyst Rose.
