Guadalupe Mariscal

April 29, 1945 — November 20, 2025

Guadalupe G. Mariscal, age 80, of Artesia, New Mexico, passed away on November 20, 2025, surrounded by his family. Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort knowing he is now at peace in the arms of the Lord.

“Lupe” was born to Christina and Jose Mariscal on April 29, 1945, the eldest of 12 children. He grew up in a large, close-knit family in Artesia and graduated from Artesia High School in 1964. In 1966, he married the love of his life Rosa Cabezuela with whom he shared two children: Melissa and Jose Luis. He proudly served his country for six years in the National Guard. He began his own business, Mariscal Pneumatic Instrumentation, in 1979 and later renamed it Mariscal Construction. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church. He was very involved with the church throughout his life, serving in several ministries including the Knights of Columbus among others. His life was defined by strength, leadership, loyalty, hard work, dedication, and a faith that carried him through every season. He was an outspoken man who loved simply and deeply — through his actions, his presence, and the way he showed up for the people he cared about.

Lupe found joy in the little moments of life. From bowling league to a softball team full of family to hunting and fishing; he was always up for an adventure. He loved his regular trips to Ruidoso, where the mountains were his place of peace. Whether he was playing a round of golf, enjoying the cool air, visiting the casino, or simply soaking in the beauty of the area, Ruidoso held a special place in his heart. His family will forever picture him happiest there — laughing, relaxing, and doing the things he loved.

Most of all, Lupe loved his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Rosa Mariscal; his daughter Melissa Mariscal Lopez and her husband Frankie, along with their children Roman (Kendyl), Marissa (Rodrigo and daughter Kamila Rose); and his son Jose Luis Mariscal, with his children Ramon (Janette and daughters Delilah and Georgia), and Montana (sons Zaydenn, Zahriah, Zybryn, and Maziel and daughter Zaydah).

He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Jose (Elia), Santos (Helen), Ignacio (Carmen), Manuel, Ventura (Victoria), Yolie (Gilbert), Raymond (Sally), Janie, Jesus, Hilaria, and Rosie as well as countless nieces, nephews, and extended family who will always cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Christina and Jose Mariscal, niece Valerie Joy Romo, and nephew Robert Duran.

A public viewing will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Terpening & Son Mortuary in Artesia.

A rosary will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Artesia, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Father Francis Lazer.

Pallbearers are Adrian Romo, Dominic Duran, Michael Ray Mariscal, Guadalupe Canales, Paul Anthony Muniz and Aaron Romo. Honorary Pallbearers are all his other Nephews and friends: Tony Fierro, Rudy Araujo, Margarito Salmon, and Manuel Moreno.

Lupe leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, faith, and family. We will remember him for his strong spirit, his laughter, his big family gatherings, his trips to the mountains, and the way he loved each of us without condition. His presence will be missed every single day, but the memories he gave us will remain forever.

May he rest in eternal peace.
