Fay Hamner

November 16, 1934 — October 4, 2025

Fay Marie Hamner was born in Rural Childress County, TX to Vera Hamner-Tennant and JD Hamner on November 16, 1934. Fay's father, JD, was awarded a Purple Heart for his heroic efforts on Luzon Island during WWII.

Fay went to Artesia High School and Graduated in 1954. She was a devoted Bulldog fan all her life. Fay lived with her mother Vera, and daddy, Sonny Tennant, in the family home until Vera passed away in 2019. Fay and Vera always took care of each other. Although Fay had only one job in her life, she had many fond memories and took pride in that accomplishment.

Fay's favorite activity was attending her lifelong church, First Baptist Church of Artesia. She loved everyone in her Sunday School class as well as Pastor Ty and all her church family. From a very young age, Fay loved westerns, especially Bonanza and Gunsmoke. Many a Saturday afternoon was spent with her beloved nephew down at the matinee at the Landsun.

Fay is survived by her loving sister, Pam Runyan (Tom), brother, Mike Tennant (Glenda) of Artesia, and Sam Tennant (Betty) of Temple, TX, nephew, Todd Mays (Laura) also of Artesia, Suanne Tennant-Bonnet (Richard) of Houston, Camille Graham (Sergio) of Runyan Ranches, and nephew, Rusty Tennant of Washington State.

Her dearest companion was the late Glenda Sessions, and her caregivers who became family are Luz Elva Muniz and the late Priscilla Munoz.

The family would like to extend sincerest thanks and gratitude to the Artesia Rehabilitation Center, especially staff members Rachel and Susan, her kind roommate, Helen Lopez, and of course, all Fay's wonderful buddies who lived there with her. They all knew she loved them. ARC made her life full during the transition to full time care. Finally, many thanks to Enhabit for supporting the family during Fay's end of life journey.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at First Baptist Church, with a burial to immediately follow at Woodbine Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, Fay's family would like donations to be made to First Baptist Church.
