Ernesto Soto

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church for Ernesto M. Soto of Lake Arthur, N.M.

Mr. Soto, 86, died Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at his home.

Fr. Francis Lazer will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Freddie Soto, Jr., Saige Soto, Francisco Grado, Jr., Edward Rubio, Robbie Robinson, and Jimmy Grado. Honorary pallbearers will be Delbert Robinson, C.E. LaRue, and Francisco Grado, Sr.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Tuesday, September 4 beginning at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be recited at St. Anthony's Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

Ernesto was born on February 26, 1932 to Trinidad Soto and Gabriella (Macias) Soto in San Francisco de Arriba, Mexico.

In June of 1958 he was married to Maria Cruz Grado in Carlsbad, N.M. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Michael Soto.

Ernesto was a farm laborer and did several jobs as a mechanic. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lake Arthur and enjoyed hunting and traveling. Ernesto was a hard worker and was very well liked by his peers. His love was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons Juan Ernesto Soto of Juarez, Mexico, Francisco Soto, Roberto Soto, and Richard Soto and wife Sonya all of Artesia, N.M., and Federico Soto and wife Joann of Dexter, N.M.; special companion Maria Corral; sisters Emilia Montoya of Brownsville, TX, Josephina Tovar of Mexico, and Juana Soto of Mexico; brother Pedro Soto of Tyler, TX; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
