Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 16 at First United Methodist Church for Ernest Clyde Thompson, 901 Catalina Drive, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Thompson, 90, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cooper Henderson, Royce Pearson, Mike Phipps, Jimmy Boyse, David Matlock and Mack Chase. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Verhines, John Brown, Bill Gray, Jack Reid, James Guy and Owen Taylor, Sen. Pete Domenici, J.B. Craft, L.G.Henderson, George Gandy, Don Brewer Doyle Pounds, Fred Simpson, Floyd Economides. Mr. Thompson was born October 29, 1911 in Carlton, Texas; the son of James Pendleton Thompson and Leona McClung Thompson. He moved to Loco Hills, N.M. in 1939 and to Artesia in 1947. On November 16, 1942 he was married to Grace King in Brownwood, Texas. His wife preceded him in death February 27, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother James Erman Thompson; and by brothers Zannie Tull Thompson and Mark Thompson. He was a retired Purchasing Agent for Navajo Refining Company and served as Mayor of Artesia from 1972 to 1998. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, N.M. Gideons Society, Artesia Rotary Club, Little League and spent 40 years in scouting. Survivors include a son Robert Thompson of Encinito, Calif.; a brother James Thompson of Stephenville, Texas; a sister Miriam Norvell of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Robert Thompson Jr. and Michelle Campbell and husband Josh all of Encinito; and a great-grandson Conner Campbell.
