Eloisa Pope of Artesia, NM passed from this Earth on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 at the age of 96. Eloisa was born December 27, 1928 in Van Horn, Texas, the daughter of Tomas and Romula Lujan. On December 31, 1953 she married Paul Pope with whom she shared three children: Jeannie, James, and Paula. She served the families of Artesia through her work at the Good Samaritan Center for over 25 years, followed by many years as a foster grandparent at Grand Heights and the summer rec program. Eloisa was best known in Artesia as 'Grandma Pope' as she loved and cared for each of her 'grandchildren' she encountered as a foster grandparent. Eloisa was a loyal friend, a loving mother and grandmother, and a beloved member of the Artesia community.
Eloisa was proceeded in death by her parents, siblings Tomas Jr. (Chito), Mary, Socorro, David, Lalo, and Tony, her husband Paul, and her son James, all of whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her daughter Jeannie Reynolds and husband Don of Artesia, daughter Paula Artrip and husband Richard of Lubbock, TX, daughter-in-law LouAnn Pope of Frisco, TX, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews and their families.
Services for Eloisa are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Terpening & Son Chapel.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations of school supplies are made to Grand Heights in her name.
