She was preceded in death by her husband Lonnie, sons Kent and Bryan, grandson Tyler, and all of her siblings and both parents. A service will be held in her honor on March 6, 2026 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, Artesia.Roedean grew up in a large family with six sisters and two brothers during the Great Depression in the Elida and Portales, NM area. They survived by working hard, including the children. She picked cotton and green beans and worked in a cannery and a broom factory while she was growing up. She and her brother, Buddy, went door to door on D-Day to wake everyone on their paper routes with the news of the war.One of the biggest joys of her life was marrying Lonnie, whom she shared life with for 70 years. Together they created a family that knew what it meant to work hard and to love and serve other people. She had a passion for worshiping and serving God. She studied the Bible deeply and even received a diploma in Biblical Studies from Golden Gate Theological Seminary, attended church activities faithfully, and provided many meals, clothing, and other care for people outside of the church as well. In their later years, they served with Campers on Mission, building new churches all over New Mexico. As a mother, she was very proud of all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and attended, chaperoned, and cheered on all of the many activities in which they participated, including band, choir, football, baseball, and basketball. She was also very proud that, in her 40s, she became a teacher for the Artesia Public Schools, spending all of her years at Zia Middle School teaching English. She was proud to be a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Even right before she passed away, Roedean could tell you the names and something about all of her "kids". It always surprised them when she called them by name and remembered something specific that happened with them.Roedean spent many hours creating fabric pieces. In her early life, she sewed clothing for her family, created beautiful quilts, and knitted and crocheted hundreds of blankets and booties for newborn babies. She also grew every color of rose imaginable and would give those beautiful flowers to anyone who needed a boost of encouragement.Roedean Cavener Jordan made a difference in the lives of her family members and many other people from all over the world. As a family, we will miss her memories, her words of wisdom, and her many acts of love and encouragement she extended to us. We will also remember the humor she added to our days to make things seem to be ok even when times were not easy. May our lives reflect that attitude of service as we make our way in the world.
