Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 16th at New Hope Baptist Church for Edward Benjamin Hickey - Born to Dorris Virginia Roberts and Benjamin Edwin Hickey, May 11, 1946 in Denver, Colorado. He died on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Artesia Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

 

He was also known as: Big Ed, Eddie, and Baby Huey.

 

He was married to Judy Carol Stoops on October 16, 1964. They had one son, Montie.

 

He worked at National By-Products and Denver Coca Cola Bottling Company, before he was called to pastor and attended Baptist Bible College of Denver, Colorado. He gained his preaching experience holding services at the Denver Rescue Mission. He later was licensed and called as Assistant Pastor of North Swansea Baptist Church in Montbello, Colorado. He was then called to Mountain States Baptist Tabernacle of Denver, Colorado as the Song Leader.

 

In 1980 he continued his ministry at Adams City Baptist Church as Assistant Pastor under Reverend Durbin Thorp. After Pastor Thorp's passing Ed served as Senior Pastor.

 

In 1990 he was called to Pastor the Centre Avenue Baptist Church in Artesia, New Mexico where he pastored until 1997.

 

After pastoring he worked at several lumber yards and hardware stores in Albuquerque and Artesia. He was janitor for Western Bank of Artesia during his retirement years.

 

He is survived by: Judy of the home, and son, Montie, daughter-in-law Genia and grandson Ryan. His sister Virginia Todd and brother-in-law, Bill, nephew Charles and niece Alyce. Sister, Pearl Torrey, and niece Dawn. He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Hickey and sister-in-law Karen.

 

Known as "Pastor Hickey" Ed leaves behind his extended family: Dennis, Diane, Brandon, Jarrod Davis and Kimberly Rodriguez. Mike, Anita, JJ and Josh Shannon and their spouses and children.

 

If you could ask him how he is today he would say "Better than I deserve".

 

The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Artesia Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
