Doris Case

May 30, 1929 — March 10, 2024

Services are scheduled for 10 am Monday, March 18, at First Methodist Church for Doris Jean Case of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Case, 94, died on Sunday, March 10, 2024 in Artesia.

Rev. Monty Leavell will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Reggie Guy, Graham Guy, Chirs Kuykendall, Jackson Guy, Michael Wadkins, and Baron Chandler. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 2 to 6 pm on Sunday. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm at Terpening & Son.

Doris was born on May 30, 1929 in Wolf, Seminole County, Oklahoma; the daughter of William Edward Moore and Grace Jenette Julian.

Doris was an avid golfer. She took the game very seriously, and did not view it as a sport of leisure. For her 90th birthday, Debbie and Dani took her to the course for a relaxing 18 holes. After riding in the cart for a few holes she decided to show them up and needless to say "she still had it".

Doris and Jack loved to dance. Her family recalls loving to see them jitterbug, and a dear friend told a story of a time they won a jitterbug contest on the top floor of the Artesia Hotel. Debbie tells of how they came to town from Loco Hills weekly for Doris and Jack to square dance. Doris was also a line dancer and traveled and competed with the Pecos Valley Line Dancers group. As a child Doris dreamt of being a tap dancer. She and her granddaughter Dani tapped together for the Vera Lynn School of Dance for many years in the late 80's.

Doris loved her family and never missed an activity that they were involved in. From Jack's days of playing ball and coaching to her grands and great grands playing various sports and showing livestock, she made every game or show she could. Even attending her last basketball game just a few weeks ago.

Over the years she worked for H&J Grocery as a bookkeeper, at The Togery Shop as a saleswoman, and lastly at Union Supply in bookkeeping.

The last few years she has enjoyed the dearest group of friends, having lunch at the meal site, Saturday morning breakfasts and Saturday afternoon games of Joker.

Doris was proud of her Native American heritage. She loved all animals small and large, even befriending a roadrunner once. She will be dearly missed, but her family will rejoice in the Lord for such a blessed and full life lived.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Case, sons Jack Case Jr., and Eric Neil Case; brothers Eudell Moore and George Cooper Jr., a sister Delois Franke, and a great-grandson Gavin Guy.

Survivors include her daughter Debbie Guy and husband Eddie; grandchildren Dani Kuykendall and husband Chris, Reggie Guy and wife Staci, Graham Guy and wife Kindra, and Richard Eric Case; great-grandchildren Jackson Guy, Gracen Kuykendall, Mollie Guy, Joleigh Guy, Daegan Kuykendall, and Darla Guy.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church Artesia or the Assurance Home in Roswell.
