Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 4 at Lake Arthur Methodist Church for Clifford Grey Mickey Nelson, 503 E. Eighth St., Lake Arthur, New Mexico. Mr. Nelson, 67, died Thursday, February 28, 2002 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Rev. Don Johnston and Garland McNeil will officiate at the services with burial at Lake Arthur Cemetery in Lake Arthur, N.M. Pallbearers will be Richard McNeil, Garland McNeil, Billy Shipp, Michael Shipp, Craig Nelson, Jay Nelson, Dillon Fuqua and Bobby Vaughn. Mickey was born April 2, 1934 in Cottonwood, New Mexico; the son of John August Nelson, Sr. and Bertha Ellen Mahan Nelson. He served in the United States Army. He worked as manager of H J Grocery in Artesia for some 18 years; and was a nurses aide at the Roswell Rehabilitation Center. He was a longtime member of Lake Arthur Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge and the Lake Arthur Joy Center. He was past mayor and city councilman for Lake Arthur; and member of the Artesia Historical Society. Mickey was preceded in death by his parents; and by a nephew Jeff August Nelson. Survivors include his companion Mary Beard of Artesia; brothers John August Nelson, Jr. of Lake Arthur and Donald Harry Nelson and wife Jan of Kingsland, Texas; a sister: Ellen Jeanette McNeil and husband James of Lake Arthur; an aunt Dorothy Stevens and husband Jim of Albuquerque; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Arthur Methodist Church.
